Job Summary

The  Energy Economist / Market Analyst  provides quantitative and strategic insights into energy pricing, demand forecasting, regulatory impacts, and investment trends across electricity and fuel markets. This role informs project development, capital strategy, and market entry decisions for BaRupOn's large-scale energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze wholesale energy markets (e.g., ERCOT, CAISO, PJM) and forecast pricing, volatility, and regulatory impacts
  • Conduct economic modeling of solar, gas, and hybrid generation project economics under various scenarios
  • Develop market outlooks and financial models to support investment and project finance teams
  • Track policy changes, tax incentives (e.g., IRA), and transmission/interconnection developments
  • Provide competitor benchmarking and sector research to support investor materials and site selection
  • Support due diligence and valuation for power purchase agreements (PPAs), capacity auctions, and hedging strategies
  • Work closely with finance, engineering, and legal teams to translate economic inputs into actionable insights
  • Contribute to investor decks, executive briefings, and stakeholder presentations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Energy Economics, Public Policy, Finance, or a related field
  • 3–7 years of experience in energy market analysis, project finance modeling, or regulatory policy
  • Proficiency in Excel financial modeling, energy data tools (e.g., ABB Velocity, Wood Mackenzie, EIA), and forecasting platforms
  • Familiarity with Independent System Operators (ISOs), energy pricing mechanisms, and interconnection procedures
  • Strong understanding of renewable incentives (ITC, PTC, LPO), carbon pricing, and grid integration economics
  • Clear communication skills, especially in simplifying complex analyses for stakeholders and investors

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in private equity-backed or IPP settings
  • Knowledge of international energy markets or global commodity trends
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or Power BI for data analysis a plus
