Job Description

Healthcare Staffing Professionals has an immediate need for a  Community Worker to support the Trauma Prevention Initiative (TPI) Expansion Project. The TPI program is dedicated to reducing trauma visits, assault-related deaths, and serious violent crime throughout LA County, with an initial focus on communities within South Los Angeles. This initiative plays a vital role in building safer, healthier neighborhoods by strengthening community networks and promoting peacebuilding activities. As part of this important work, the Community Worker will join a Regional Team, working closely with the Supervising Community Health Worker (CHW) to engage local residents, provide peer outreach, and support the Community Action for Peace (CAP) networks.
In this role, the Community Worker will also supervise, mentor, and provide programmatic support to a team of fellow Community Workers. The ideal candidate will have strong community engagement skills, experience working with populations impacted by violence, and a passion for supporting positive change at the grassroots level. This is a  hybrid position based out of the  Alhambra office , requiring a combination of field and office work to best meet the needs of the South LA communities served.

$22.78 working 40 hours a week

Job Duties
  • Engage in community outreach, peer support, and promote peacebuilding activities at events and through local networks.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support a team of Community Workers while collaborating with the Regional Team and Supervising CHW.
  • Build relationships with community organizations, connect residents to services, and support data collection and program reporting.
Minimum Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
  • Option I: Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university -AND- two years of experience developing, implementing, and evaluating a health-focused program with one year at a supervisory level
-OR-
  • Option II: Three years of experience supervising community workers and groups or similar experience at a public or private community-based organization, clinic, hospital, or health system
As well as the following:
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • Six months of full-time experience working with the public or with community groups performing duties, such as interviewing clients or patients concerning health or social service matters, answering questions, and providing information about health, mental health, and social services to clients or patients. Work performed part-time in the specified capacities will be prorated on a month for-month basis.
  • Able to access and operate MS Windows-based laptop or desktop device with a speaker and microphone and reliable WiFi/internet access.
  • Professional understanding of general health disparities and impact of violence and trauma on communities of color, low income communities, and other highly impacted communities throughout LA County.
  • Knowledge of community assets and resources within the TPI communities.
  • Experience living and/or working in the TPI communities preferred.
  • Experience conducting community education and/or community outreach to businesses and community groups.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • If primarily working with limited English proficient (LEP) populations, have the capacity to speak, read, and write the native language(s) of those they serve (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Armenian, Cantonese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Farsi, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Khmer (Cambodian), Korean, Lao, Mandarin, Panjabi, Russian, Tagalog, Thai, and Vietnamese).
  • Lived experience: Individuals with histories of incarceration working as community health/peer workers can make a unique contribution to the responsiveness and effectiveness of service delivery for these populations.
